I have to say I was really pleased to have chosen Thomson Safaris for my Kilimanjaro trek. All three of us were successful in reaching the summit, and the complete arrangements were near perfect.
Andrew, our Head Guide, was very good at assessing our small group’s individual capabilities. He is a good leader and is very safety conscious, while being patient, diplomatic, and helpful. Deogratius was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the mountain’s ecology. The porters worked as a team and were very friendly.
I was happy I had selected Thomson Safaris for the trip I had dreamed about for more than 20 years and know your Tanzania staff was a big part of my success in reaching the summit.

Our experience in Tanzania was simply spectacular. Our trip up Kilimanjaro was far more beautiful and rewarding than I ever could have imagined. The ever changing scenery gave us new surprises each day. Watching the sun set over the clouds lit up in every shade of orange was breathtaking, and seeing the bright stars and moon illuminate the glaciers above us at the peak was truly moving.
Our guides were world class! They enhanced our experience in every way imaginable. Their knowledge of the mountain and country was remarkable. We all learned so much on our trek up. As I mentioned before, Deo was amazing. My son peppered him with questions about all things Africa and he answered them all with remarkable depth and a terrific sense of humor. He is very bright, very responsible, and a lot of fun. His customer service is so good you don’t realize that you are a customer. He would make an exceptional lead guide.
I have given you all the highest of praise and recommended Thomson Safaris to many friends and many more patients (they all ask about our trip). I look forward to joining you on more adventures in the future. Thanks again for an experience of a lifetime! My son, Harrison, and I could not have been more pleased with our experience.

All the guides and porters were just great, but you really have a gem with our assistant guide, Sunday.
He was FANTASTIC. Without his help, I would not have made it to the top. He had us all laughing and forgetting how hard climbing up was, especially during the hardest times climbing up! He also offered to carry my water bottles along with his huge backpack. He is extremely capable and was in good spirits 100% of the time. I don’t think I’ve ever met anyone like him before. I felt very safe with him there.
My son and I wanted to see a sunrise so he offered to get us up before dawn and take us to see it. Of course, I couldn’t take decent pictures of the sunrise but he even knew how to use my camera and zoom in and get the best photos! As you can gather, Sunday was a huge part of us having fun on this really hard climb.
Ras Nungwi in Zanzibar was the BEST PART of the trip. We all loved it!!!
Looking back at everything, it was an adventure and I can certainly understand how important the role of Thomson is in a country like Tanzania. I would certainly recommend Thomson again.
Thank you for organizing everything.

We had the incredible experience of climbing to the rooftop of Africa and summited at daytime, when we could fully take in the grandeur of the views and glaciers, in picture perfect weather conditions.
Thanks to Thomson Safaris’ Grand Traverse Route, we were able to overnight at Crater Camp during the full moon. On the Grand Traverse it was possible for us to experience several days of un-crowded trekking and we even had some campsites all to ourselves. This unique treat became much more apparent during the final two ascending days, when we intersected with the more “public” trail systems and crowds of many people!
We could not have asked for a better experience and more fun than we had during the entire trek! All this would not have been possible without our perfect support team and the happy group of people guiding us up the tallest freestanding mountain in the world.
We highly recommend your company for this once in a lifetime experience. You created memories that will stay with us for the rest of our lives! Please express our sincere thanks and appreciation to each and everyone within your team. From the office to the field, we were treated royally!

Andrew Liu trekked Mount Kilimanjaro while his family visited the remote Mahale Mountains, and the East Serengeti in Tanzania. They ended their adventure together on safari in Northern Tanzania
We all had a great time on our respective trips – Tanzania is an amazing place and we appreciated the efforts of our guides and other crew to make the trip such a great experience.
On Kilimanjaro, I was impressed with the care and direction from our head guide, Bernard, and the assistant guides as well. Since we had a number of people who had limited camping experience, the guides did a pretty good job to keep them informed. I enjoyed chatting with several of the guides during the trek – they were all very friendly and knowledgeable about the plants, birds, and climate zones. The porters were fantastic at getting camp broken down and set up again at the new site. My rental gear (sleeping bag, fleece liner, and gaiters) worked perfectly. Thanks for the suggestion of using gaiters – my boots stayed clear of trail debris and I’m a believer now!
Brenda and the kids had a super time in Mahale - it was a fantastic location for them to experience. They also visited the East Serengeti, where they enjoyed the stop at the Maasai village and the interactions with the Maasai people. It was time well spent in the East Serengeti, and the night drives were in the Eastern Serengeti and they thought those were very cool. We finally joined back together for the remainder of our Northern Tanzania safari. Our guide, Mussa, was on top of his bird and animal knowledge and did a great job driving us around and anticipating where the animals would be.
We all had a wonderful time and appreciated how Thomson Safaris ran a largely flawless trip so we could just focus on enjoying what Tanzania had to offer.

Jed at the summit!
The glaciers of Mount Kilimanjaro
My very first impression of Thomson Safaris was so positive, I didn’t even look at other companies. The sales and service team were so attentive, and always gave me immediate and complete responses.
My guide Edward was also absolutely top-of-the-line. He was always responsive to individual needs. The porters, too, were so helpful. The little details, like a hot pre-breakfast drink as the weather got colder further up the mountain, made all the difference.
I’m not an emotional person, but the experience of reaching the summit made me tear up. Thomson’s amazing attention to detail made that possible.
