Thomson Safaris’ Head Guides Are Superstars!

Thomson guides are leaders, experts, naturalists, researchers, and more. Born and bred in Tanzania, there are no better ambassadors to share Tanzania’s wildlife and culture with you.

We love the entire guiding team at Thomson, but you don’t have to take our word for it.  Our guests consistently rave about them, and we are always updating The Buzz on this blog to share those glowing reviews with you.

Meet just a few of our head guides in the videos below – Leonard, Abu, Phanuel and Robert.  (And meet them in real life when you come to Tanzania!)

It was so great seeing Robert again. Brought back such wonderful memories of our recent trip. I was so sad to leave and hope that we will be able to return and see more of your incredible country. Robert, please say hi to Emmamuel when you see him from the Principe’s. Trip was last August.

Hi Phanuel — How wonderful it was to see your smiling face on this video! Our Thomson Safari experience ranks very high on our list of life’s greatest adventures, and we can’t thank you and Willie enough for your patience, enthusiasm, and all those memories you helped us to create. Thank-you for shaing your beautiful country with us, and hope to see you again!

My husband and I love Leonard! Our trip was fantastic — and Leonard made it extra special. We hope to return to Tanzania someday!

  7. Dick Stannard June 24, 2011 at 12:12 pm

It was great to see and hear Robert again. Robert, you did for us exactly what you said on the video — giving us the best possible experience on safari.

I see the safari every day on my screen saver as it goes through a 500 slide show.

    Abu!! Phanuel!!
Great to see you guys on video1 I had such a good time on my safari with you.
But next time Abu, give me 2 more seconds to get the picture of the charging buffalo! :)

Awwww, so nice to see Leonard! He and Nasibu were guides on my very first trip to Tanzania. Although I have my favorites….all of them are so knowledgeable, and fun to travel with. So “GOOD JOB” Thomson Safaris for blessing all of us with these wonderful “Superstars”!

Thank you so much. It was good to see Robert again – still the same delightful man. We hope to take another safari with you one of these days.

Great to see all the head guides, and especially fun to hear Robert’s laugh again.

Seeing Robert brought back so many memories of our time in Tanzania last Fall. It was the trip of a lifetime. We are wearing out the CD Dick Stannard made for us. We so enjoyed our guides as well as the 12 other people in our group.

Wonderful videos! It was so great to see Robert’s smiling face and hear his wonderful laugh. He is truly the best guide I’ve ever had on a trip. Seeing these videos brings back great memories. Thanks, Thomson!

Watching these videos made me so nostalgic! The ‘fine-ness’ of your guides is wonderfully illustrated. And seeing the wildlife made it all the more thrilling. You’ve done a great job capturing the spirit of your company through your head guides.

What a pleasure to see you again, Phanuel. Tarangire tried her best to produce a bird you could not identify, but you never failed. And then there were the 8 leopards in 6 days on the Serengeti! Superstar indeed. Asante sana.

Thomson, thank you for the videos. And Jambo to our dear guide and friend, Leonard. It was wonderful to see you again, we certainly miss you. Best wishes to you and your family, come see us, too! Take care, Mama, Baba, and Kristal

Jambo Abu! It is hard to believe that you have been a guide for 32 years – you don’t look 32! It was great seeing your smiling face on the video. We remember all the fun we had riding in your Land Rover. We hope some day to return! Michele and Mark Ogden

Jambo Chama! You did give us the best Safari experience. It was great to see your smile and your deep laugh on the video. We think of you often and our dream is to return to Africa and take another Thomson Safari! Michele and Mark Ogden

Jambo! It was so nice to see Robert on the video and all of the other guides as well. Enjoyed seeing all the sights of Tanzania and thinking of all the fun and friends of this past September. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Leonard made our trip to Tanzania a very special adventure. His knowledge and caring attitude was experienced by all on our safari. We loved our trip and hope to return someday for more appreciation of the ecology, animals and the wonderful people.

  23. Dawn Balcazar March 9, 2013 at 11:55 pm

I still feel a bond to Leonard after 10 years! Does anyone have his email address. A friend of mine is going to Arusha on business and wanted to ask some questions of someone trustworthy and with knowledge of the area.
